About me

Hi, I'm Jeni.

After 20 years of working in and with the charity and public sector,                                                            I'm hitting the road as a freelancer, aiming to achieve the ultimate                                                            work-life balance by combining the job I love with my love for travel.

I
'm choosing the freelance life for two reasons:

1. I really love fundraising, but the further I progress in my career, the less fundraising I actually seem to do. I don't want to spend my time in management meetings - I want to use my skills to make an impact.

2. I thrive on change, in both my personal and professional life. I want more flexibility in both.

I've worked in community and corporate fundraising, supported 3rd party event participants, and managed mass participation events, awards ceremonies, and conferences. I've done bucket collections, built fundraising departments up from scratch, wrote grant applications, partnership proposals, website copy, and hundreds, maybe even thousands, of Christmas cards.

I've worked in cancer research, hospice, the NHS, homelessness, mental health, learning disability, and education. I've worked for charities including Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation, North West Air Ambulance Charity, Mencap Liverpool & Sefton, and The Girls' Network. I led on The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity's New NHS Cancer Hospital Capital Appeal in Liverpool, built Phoenix Foundation's fundraising department from the ground up, and managed LandAid's flagship events 'The LandAid SleepOut' and 'The LandAid 10K'.

Before working as a fundraiser, I taught English as a Foreign Language in Europe, Asia, and South America. I also spent 5 years working as a recruitment consultant, with more than half that time spent at Charity People.

I am passionate about social justice, education, and the Arts.

I love words, languages, and the world. I'm a bookworm, a writer,  and an adventure seeker. I'm currently training for the 2025 London Marathon - which means you will mostly find me running (very slowly!) in my local park with my dog, Dixie.

Values
Open
I work with transparency, honesty, and integrity, I welcome feedback, and only take on projects where I know I can make a positive difference.
Driven
I'm ambitious, proactive, and motivated by growth. I have high standards, and take pride in my work and my reputation.
Sunshine
Ok so I can't control the weather, but I try to bring compassion, warmth, and optimism to everything I do.
Bold
I am curious, creative, and brave. I'm always learning, and I love to explore new ideas, new subjects, new ways of doing things, and of course, new places. I'm never afraid to ask 'why'?
Individuality
I do things differently. Take risks. Speak up. I celebrate uniqueness, and champion disruptors. I will not work with any organisations that discriminate against anyone based on their ethnicity, sexuality, gender, religion, age, class, or anything else. If you are kind, and you want to make the world a better place for everyone, then you are my kind of people!
